Briiv on a pedestal next to the B Corp logo

B Corp Certified

As of August 2022, we are incredibly proud to say that Briiv is B Corporation certified! As a B Corp business, Briiv is committed to prioritising sustainability in all the ways we conduct business to promote an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for people and the planet.

We’re incredibly proud of this achievement, but what does it mean?

A lot of work has gone into getting the B Corp certification; it’s taken over a year to go through the assessment, auditing the company and its practices, and identifying areas for improvement.

The B Corp certification was developed by the not-for-profit organisation B Lab. They developed a rigorous questionnaire known as the B Impact Assessment to consider the sustainable impact of a business. It’s all about having a company with purpose that benefits the world, not prioritising profit over all else. The certification isn’t just about Briiv as a product, but the company as a whole and how we exist in industry. It instils a commitment to continual improvement and progress; we have to be re-certified every three years to keep the certification.

What does the Impact Assessment measure?

It looks at five main areas of impact: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.

We’re proud to say that we scored above the average for the UK in all areas, but that doesn’t mean there’s not room for improvement!

Why did we do this?

As you can probably tell by this point, the B Corp certification is an intensive process, so why did we go to the effort? Sustainability is a key facet of our business, from the natural materials that make up Briiv to the circular nature of the product, but sustainability isn’t just about how eco-friendly we are. The B Impact Assessment allowed us to look as the social and fiscal sustainability of Briiv, and we were pleased to see that we’ve been practising what we preach!

What’s next?

Completing Impact Assessment taught us a lot about the business as it currently exists. It required us to assess our supply chains and get a better understanding of each and every step of the design and production of Briiv as a product. We were able to truly assess how ethical, sustainable, and circular those processes were, as this is such a fundamental part of how we want the business to run. It helped us to identify areas for improvement; for example, we now know that we can work harder on our community engagement and stakeholder and supply chain management to improve our score.

From here, we can focus on maintaining the standards that we’re happy with and improve in areas that we’ve identified might need more work. While rolling out new performance requirements we want to ensure we maintain and improve on the standards we’ve set.
